Arklow Commercial Test Centre – VTN is a Light Goods (LGV) and Heavy Goods (HGV) Commercial Vehicle Testing Centre. This is an annual test for all commercial vehicle owners and camper vans.
Arklow Commercial Test Centre adheres to the highest standards of tester training and practice outlined by the VTN Network.
We are located just off the N11 in Arklow Town.
Before you present your vehicle for testing, there are a number of checks you can carry out.
Check the operation of side light, headlamps dipped, headlamps full beam, side lights, stop lights, indicators, fog lights and reversing lights.
Ensure that commercial vehicles have the correct markings on the side and rear as applicable by Irish Law. If in doubt, please ring our VTN Department and they will advise you in relation to your vehicle type.
Check the thread depths and wear points on your tyres, pay attention to damage to sidewalls as this is the main cause of blowouts.
Check the engine oil level, coolant levels and washer fluid, top up as required.
Check the function of all door locks and windows. Ensure seat belts are operational and undamaged. Check the operation of the horn.
Brakes and Suspension.
It is very difficult to determine the performance level of the braking and suspension system without the correct equipment. During the test the brake pad/shoe wear levels are checked along with their effectiveness. The vehicle suspension system is also evaluated for wear. If you have any doubts about your vehicle’s braking or suspension you should have them examined by a reputable garage.
If your vehicle does not pass the test, a retest must be completed within 21 days/4,000 kilometres, otherwise a new test must be carried out.
Identification in the form of Driver’s License or Passport is required.
You need to have an original VLC (Vehicle Licensing Certificate), this is also known as a logbook. This is a statutory requirement and we cannot carry out a test without it.
Hubcaps will need to be removed and the undercarriage of the vehicle will need to be cleaned.
